Boston Seaport Proposal - Autumn & Edrick
Edrick surprised Autumn by proposing at FAN PIER PARK in the Boston Seaport one chilly afternoon.
The two met online 3 years ago, and kept up a pretty platonic relationship in the beginning, knowing they were long-distance (Autumn was in a small town in Kentucky & Edrick in south Florida.) But somehow they just kept coming back into each other’s lives. Over the years they’ve gone to visit each other, and travel together all the time. Edrick is a conductor for bands, which brings him all over the country for gigs & speaking engagements, so he brings Autumn along as often as possible so they can explore new cities together.
He had a trip to Boston in the books, and it seemed like the perfect time to pop the question to Autumn. That’s where I come in. Edrick found me on Instagram, and shot me an email in the dark. The subject line read “Hi…” and I thought he might be scamming me! Little did I know he was just in over his head and super nervous just writing the email! Later I found out he was cautious not to follow me on social media with the fear that Autumn would randomly look over his shoulder and notice a wedding photographer in his feed! This guy was DETERMINED to keep his scheme under wraps.
He knew little about Boston, but I quickly put him at ease, letting him know I had the perfect location for them. The Boston Seaport is more private than Back Bay, has an awesome view of the city skyline, and tons of different spots for portraits. I sent him specific directions (thanks, Google street view!) on how to get to the exact spot with the best view, and he scoped it out the day before so we were all on the same page for the proposal the next day.
When the moment came, we assumed our positions, and I waited for the 2 of them to come down the path by the water, while I “pretended” to take photos of the skyline in the distance. I saw them approaching, and he waited for the path to clear of runners and parents with their strollers before he got down on one knee and asked the question. Autumn would NOT stop kissing him, it was the sweetest thing! I eventually introduced myself, congratulated them, and we explored the area, walking by the water and stopping in a couple places to warm up halfway through (CAFFE NERO & GATHER).
I’m so stoked I could capture this intimate, beautiful moment for them, and glad that now Boston will always hold a special place in their hearts. <3
