Reid State Park, Maine Proposal - Kenzie & Pam
One day Pam was scrolling through the vast expanse of Instagram, and RANDOMLY came across one of my photos. She RANDOMLY showed Kenzie, which then prompted Kenzie to reach out to me to see if I would photograph her surprise proposal to Pam! I had to sadly decline because I was already booked... But a couple weeks later that shoot RANDOMLY fell through, and I followed up with Kenzie by the off chance she hadn’t found anyone yet. Fast forward to now, and here I am writing this blog post from their proposal shoot at their favorite state park in Maine!
The universe works in strange & amazing ways, and I couldn’t be more blessed when it connects me with people during the most intimate, meaningful moments in their lives.
When Kenzie reached out to me, she already had the proposal plan down pat. REID STATE PARK is a really special place for the two of them- they visit constantly no matter the season. Actually, Pam (also a photographer) took her first portrait of Kenzie at Reid in the exact location where Kenzie planned to propose!
Kenzie schemed with me for weeks leading up to the day, even sending photos from her phone of specific driving directions, and different angles of the proposal site. The whole day leading up to that afternoon, Pam thought they were on their way to a work event for Kenzie, so when Kenzie suggested taking a detour to hit up Reid, she was a little confused but also fine with getting some fresh sea air before a day full of formalities.
Pam drove, so that Kenzie was able to text me live updates of when they arrived, and I could clear the area from other random park-goers, and get into position. They finally arrived to the exact rock, and they seemed to be chatting for quite a bit as I was waiting for something to happen. I found out later that Kenzie had actually pulled out a ring pop first as a joke, and then finally after some laughs, pulled out the real thing and knelt down to propose.
Needless to say, Pam was shocked and speechless and so excited she was in tears. I gave them a moment to absorb what just happened, went over to introduce myself and congratulate them, and we explored around the park for the next hour! When they left, Pam still had no idea Kenzie had actually rented a house with both their families and her best friends to join them in celebrating for the rest of the weekend!
A couple weeks later, Pam left me the SWEETEST review ever:
“My now fiance booked Bailey to photograph her surprise proposal, and I'm so glad that she did! Being a photographer myself, I know how much effort goes into making photographs for a couple during the allotted time, and all the behind the scenes work afterwards to deliver beautiful images, and
First of all, she was a joy to work with; very down to earth, and casual, making us feel totally comfortable during a moment where I was literally in tears while hugging her hello. The entire session was so much fun, I wish it was longer! I genuinely wish we had the chance to grab dinner with her after and just hang out with her in Boston because she's one of those people you just want to be around!
HER POSITIVE ENERGY AND LOVE OF CAPTURING MOMENTS BETWEEN PEOPLE RADIATES!
Not to mention she delivered our photos to us SO quickly and they are stunning! I've been looking at them every day since she delivered our gallery and I swoon over and over again, reliving that special moment between my fiance and I. Bailey is a gem, booking her to photograph you and your partner is a MUST!!!!”
The two of them are such genuine, kind people and so much fun be around- I will TOTALLY be taking them up on those dinner plans!!
