Bigelow Hollow State Park, Connecticut Engagement - Marisa & John
Marissa & John are laid-back and love the outdoors, so they knew they wanted to do their engagement shoot surrounded by nature. They ended up choosing BIGELOW HOLLOW STATE PARK, which is a special place for them- they go kayaking there all the time in the summer, often bringing a picnic lunch and eating by the water.
Marissa is actually an artist as well, so I was so flattered when she reached out to me: “I am also a photographer, so the photos and overall aesthetic of the day are a top priority for me. I graduated with a BFA from MassArt, so I could tell right away when I saw your photos- I knew you must have had a fine art background! :)
“I think you have an excellent sense of storytelling and and a style all your own that can only come from someone who’s spent years of their life focused on seeing and talking about imagery.”
We found the perfect afternoon light as we walked the trails, talking about life and photography, the two of them giggling together the whole way!
At one point they told me their proposal story: They were on vacation at St. Lucia, and one day they decided to hike to the top of Pigeon Island. When they woke up the next day, John suggested they do the whole hike AGAIN. Marissa found it a little odd, but went along with it anyway. They rushed up the mountain in the early morning, because John wanted an “unobstructed view.” Once they got to the top, he tricked Marissa into thinking he was taking her picture, but instead he was video taping her as he got down on one knee and proposed!
John & Marissa’s love is so effortless and adorable, I can’t wait to photograph them again, except this time with all their friends and family at their Cape Cod wedding at the OVERBROOK HOUSE this June!
